We are a registered provider of free, government-funded dental care for children and teenagers. We want young patients to have a positive experience at the dentist and build healthy habits for life.

Who is eligible for free dental care?

  • Children and teens under 18: most basic dental treatment is publicly funded up to their 18th birthday
  • School-age children: children under 13 are usually seen by the school dental service, and we can provide further treatment if needed
  • Teenagers: from Year 9 until their 18th birthday, adolescents can get free dental care from registered providers like us

What treatments are covered?

Eligible children and teens can receive:

  • Routine exams and cleans
  • X-rays to find hidden problems

Common questions

When should my child first see a dentist?+
By their first birthday or when their first tooth appears, whichever comes first. Early visits are short, friendly and build familiarity.
Do baby teeth really need filling?+
Often yes. Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth and an untreated infection is painful and can affect the developing tooth underneath. It depends on the tooth and how close it is to falling out naturally.
Is dental care free for children in New Zealand?+
Basic dental care is publicly funded for children up to their 18th birthday through the Community Oral Health Service and contracted providers. Please contact us to discuss what is covered for your child at our clinics.
